The kittens are born in a quiet, cozy nursery right off our main living area. Their first sounds are the murmur of our family conversation, the clatter of pans from the kitchen, the gentle hum of everyday life.
As soon as mama gives the all-clear, those little adventurers tumble out into our living spaces. They learn to navigate couch cushions, scamper after feather wands on hardwood floors, and discover the supreme snoozing spot in a sunbeam. They are gently handled from day one—their tiny paws touched, their bellies rubbed, their ears cleaned. They become accustomed to the vacuum cleaner, the television, the gentle chaos of a loving home. They are socialized with our children (who are taught reverence and gentleness), our respectful dog, and a steady stream of trusted friends. Our breeding pairs are selected with the care of a matchmaker, considering complementary traits to produce kittens that are healthy, typy, and temperamentally superb. Pregnancy is a time of heightened care—the best nutrition, constant monitoring, and absolute peace for our queens. The birth is always attended, a moment of held breath and quiet awe. The following eight weeks are an intense, beautiful whirlwind.
We follow a structured early development program. This includes early litter box training with appropriate, non-clay litters, introduction to high-quality wet and dry food, and positive nail-trimming experiences. But more importantly, it’s about the countless subtle lessons: that human hands are always gentle, that being held is safe, that a new sound is interesting, not scary. We watch their individual personalities unfold—the bold explorer, the thoughtful observer, the mischievous clown—and we love them all.
